Jennifer
My name is Jennifer and I have been a member of Prosper Place Clubhouse since November 2014. Coming to the Clubhouse helps my self-esteem because I can successfully do tasks. Getting back to using a computer has given me confidence to try new things. I had forgotten how to navigate in the Excel program and now I use Excel to enter stats for the Clubhouse. With Candice’s support I started to remember the functions. When I leave Prosper Place I feel happy because I have contributed. Before I came to the Clubhouse I was afraid of making mistakes because at my job I was always afraid of getting fired. I worry less and less because staff encourage me. When they say ”You did a good job Jen”, I feel like I am worth something.

David
My name is David and I have been a member of Prosper Place Clubhouse since February 2010. I have lived with mental illness since I was a teenager. I remember having really confused and suicidal thoughts at a really young age. Before I came to Prosper Place I had a little trouble with the law, I had a lot of suicidal thoughts, and I did not have a stable lifestyle. I lived day by day and really didn’t care about life. The first time I came to the Clubhouse I did not open the door; I turned around and left. The next time I opened the door and felt very welcomed when Sue smiled at me and said “welcome!” Coming to Prosper Place gives me structure, I learn new skills like cooking and cleaning, and I have companionship. I learned I am not alone with mental illness; I have stability and hope. Coming to the Clubhouse saved my life, really!!!
Joel
My name is Joel and I have been a member of Prosper Place Clubhouse since April 2005. I was isolated in my basement, not connected to family or friends. The only time I went out was to get groceries. My depression became major and I did not see any possibility for improvement. I had been living like this for so long it became normal for me. Then I found Prosper Place where the staff and members were so friendly and understanding, I felt myself come alive, physically and mentally. The Clubhouse was safe for me to be myself and practice my job skills without fear of being criticized. Today I have the confidence to make friends, be with my family and plan for the future!
